Behind the Scenes of the DJ Scene
Conference
Before an DJ sets foot on the stage a chain of people are involved in making that happen. The whole process, from artist to manager through to the agent and promoter is still a kind of Wild West with few rules or scruples and where only the Bad and the ugly survive. Or is it? What is the reality behind the DJ scene and how is the money divided? With appearances taking on an ever more important role in an DJ’s overall income, the ade looks at every aspect of the DJ scene, from rehearsal room right through to the stage appearance, examining the varying standards in contract law, agent percentages and how fees are agreed or imposed. Who is working for who?Why are DJ fees going down while ticket prices are rising? What can DJ’s and managers do to ensure correct payment against powerful promoters? Is it possible to formulate a globally applicable standard DJ performance agreement?
