Napster started with it and then there were Spotify, Nokia’s Comes With Music and many others to follow. Assumed to be consumer friendly, technology advanced and mind setting, these new services gain awareness and recognition. On top of it the trade organizations of the “Creative Industries” who are agitating politicians and ISP’s with their vision of general flatrate-tax for digital contents.
While there is no experience for a digital content tax available yet, there are already first evidences about the business results for the exploitation of repertoire as part of flatrate deals. And these results reveal … it’s a bargain for consumers and flatrate service operators and it certainly isn’t one for artists. Those who are creating the fuel for those music pipelines are getting almost nothing out of it. A controversial discussion about the pro and cons of a very interesting business model that still is under construction.
